Adoption - Recruitment and Training

Adoption recruitment campaign

Catholic Care needs permanent families for older children and children with in care disabilities waiting

Catholic Care is calling on people to take the first step towards adopting a child.

Permanent families are particularly needed for older children, sibling groups and children with disabilities.

The appeal comes as part of the campaign to find loving families for children in need and is supported by the British Association for Adoption & Fostering (BAAF). The campaign aims to help find families for up to 4,000 children across the UK waiting for loving and permanent homes.

Catholic Care is calling on people who may have considered adoption to phone up and find out more. Our Adoption team are here to listen and inform:

"We know many people would like to offer a loving and permanent home to a child or children, but never take the next step. This may be because they think the process is too gruelling or because they're single or over 40 and think they'll automatically be turned down. More than nine out of ten people who go through the assessment are approved to adopt.''

From a national perspective David Holmes, Chief Executive of BAAF, says:

"We know that over the past ten years many people have come forward and gone on to adopt as a result of National Adoption Week. But the campaign is needed now more than ever - too many children and young people wait far too long for a permanent family. Many of these children have had a very difficult start to their lives, others have learning difficulties or health problems and it's crucial that loving and stable families are found for them.

Catholic Care Family Placement and Adoption team covers the whole of Yorkshire and parts of Humberside and works closely with the voluntary adoption agencies and many local authorities to find families for children.
