Who are we?
We are a Christian based community project. We exist to help older
people, especially those who find themselves lonely or socially isolated.
What do we do?
We focus on the practical and emotional needs of older people offering
an opportunity to join in on our social activities or by providing
a friendly face to visit at home to chat or help with practical tasks.
Where spiritual needs are identified we work closely with local churches
to provide a suitable response
Who are our volunteers?
Our volunteers are people who care enough about others to give up
some of their free time to help those in our community who are lonely.
We have a committed group of volunteers who play a valuable role
in enabling older people to sustain their quality of life. By offering
direct or indirect help they offer a positive contribution to the
success of the project. To sum up they are worth their weight in gold!
SO WHAT GOES ON....
FRIDAY FRIENDS
A group of about 60 older people who meet at St Bernadette's Church
Hall in Bradley. Everyone is welcome to join in and enjoy good company,
have a light meal, listen to speakers, celebrate church festivals
plus have an opportunity to venture on outings and holidays.
TUESDAY NATTER CLUB
If you enjoy conversation and the company of others this is ideal.
Meets every week 10 - 11.30 to have a good chat and a cuppa.
DEIGHTON OLDER PEOPLE'S FORUM
Begun by the Project, this is an important channel through which
older people's views and concerns can be heard. Meetings are held
on a regular basis offering ample opportunity for people to express
their opinions.
RESIDENTIAL HOME SERVICES
The Project co-ordinates prayer services in Residential homes. We
work with ministers and lay people to provide this service.
BRADLEY READING FRIENDS
Older people work alongside pupils from Bradley School in encouraging
the children's' reading skills. This is a positive link between the
generations and has proved a great success!
STORY SACKS
