Aims
Redholt exists to provide care for children and young people on a short or long term basis.
We aim to create a welcoming, warm and friendly atmosphere which reflects a family style of living in a Christian setting, in which children can grow physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually.
We value and respect all cultures and faiths. The young people are encouraged to attend religious services of whichever faith they belong to.
Staff
The Children are cared for by their personal key worker and a team of staff who have a variety of skills, supervised by:
The Home Manager - Martyn Parker
The Deputy Home Manager - Jackie Oldfield
During their stay at Redholt, children will be helped to deal with past experiences, separation or abuse, to prepare for a return to their own families or a move to a substitute family towards independence as appropriate.
We work closely with other professionals such as social workers, teachers, doctors, health visitors, speech therapists, play therapists, dentists and opticians to provide for each child's complete needs.
Visitors
We are willing to work with parents who visit and with past and prospective careers and to offer continuing support as for as is practicable.
Authorised visitors and friends are free to visit at any reasonable time. Please make arrangements in advance so that children are in and a room is available for your visit. Children can make and receive private telephone calls on their pay phone.
Facilities
Facilities in the Home include a lounge, quiet room / dining room, colour TVs, video, computer, toys, games, books, daily newspapers, drawing, painting and craft equipment. There is the opportunity to do cooking and gardening, and facilities for the playing and enjoyment of music such as a stereo player.
We use the local sports centre and swimming pools and there is the opportunity to join local youth groups, scouts, guides etc. We have our own caravan which is used during weekends and holidays by small groups of children and staff. There are five single bedrooms and one shared.
Food
We provide a nourishing, well balanced diet. The children have some choice and are encouraged to try a variety of foods. Special diets are catered for including halal. Staff involved in food preparation hold the Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.
Control
We aim to maintain control and discipline by developing meaningful relationships between staff and children and encouragement's and rewards.
'Approved sanctions' may be used if necessary. The list is available for inspection.
Records
A record is kept for every child, these are confidential and are kept in a secure place. Access to some records is restricted by regulations.
Staff will use their discretion when sharing information with young people, taking into account their age and understanding.
Complaints
We are always willing to listen to children or relatives and we will try to help with any problems or difficulties. Please feel free to approach the Home Manager or Deputy if you are not satisfied or wish to discuss anything to do with the care we provide. Alternatively an independent complaints procedure exists.
