A large home for seven adults with learning disabilities
Westhaven is a large stone-built house conveniently situated close to the centre of Dewsbury. It has an enclosed garden to the rear of the house.
Each resident is assigned a key worker who is involved in drawing up a Care Plan to meet the needs of the individual resident.
At Westhaven we aim to provide a nourishing well balanced diet. Residents are involved in choosing menus and are encouraged to try a variety of foods. We also cater for special diets such as diabetic, slimming, vegetarian, etc. Staff involved in food preparation hold the Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.
Westhaven works closely with other professionals such as social workers, doctors, psychologists, health visitors, physiotherapists, speech therapists, dentists and opticians in providing for each resident’s complete needs.
Staff are keen to work with parents and the family members who visit and also with past and prospective careers to offer continuity and support as far, as is practicable.
Authorised visitors and friends are free to visit at any reasonable time. It is helpful to make arrangements in advance so as to ensure residents are in and room can be made available for visits.
Each resident will occupy a single bedroom, which will be decorated according to his or her wishes. If he / she is unable to make their wishes know, then their advocate will make speak for them.

Philosophy of Care
Respect, Consistency, Kindness
The above words epitomise the attitude of staff to our work with people with learning disabilities. They are afforded the same rights and values as other members of the community
We aim to provide the residents with a secure and structured lifestyle.
We emphasise ‘ability not disability’ and their emotional and intellectual development is our priority. The learning of new skills in a safe and secure environment, is the key to growth, but the wider use of the local community and its shops and other facilities e.g. library public transport etc., is also invaluable.
