The plight of young carers is well documented, family circumstances mean that from an early age some children and young people provide regular or ongoing care and support to another family member as a result of them having a physical or mental illness, a disability, or are struggling with substance misuse. Young carers often take on practical and/or emotional caring responsibilities that would normally be expected of an adult.
The summer holidays can be a particularly isolating time for young carers, but this year, thanks to donations we have received, our Young Carers team have been able to organise a range of activities with lunch, dinner and refreshments.
Our Junior Young Carers have been out enjoying the freedom of the outdoors at the West Leeds Activity Centre. It was a beautiful summer’s day in August when the group came together for the first of the holiday activity days. Children aged from 6 to 11 years old took part in a range of activities that included, archery, go-carting and of course the legendary water slide! The children look forward to seeing each other on the trips, great friendships and bonds have been formed through a shared experience And much laughter!
The second trip took place later in august at Lotherton Hall with the adventures of zip wires, nature trails and costumes to try on.
On arrival, the children made a dash straight for the outdoors to fly down zip wires, clamber over the climbing frame and dig a great, big hole in the sandpit!
