School and Community Service - Services Provided
What the service offers
Catholic Care offers an individually tailored school social work support programme to meet the needs of your school.
  • We provide a dedicated and qualified social work practitioner with relevant experience to work in your school and community.
  • We provide supervision, appraisal, reviews and regular reports to ensure a quality service is commissioned to meet the schools needs.
  • Our staff work with the pupils to give them the time and space to work through their problems.
  • We offer advice and guidance to teachers
  • We work with parents, carers and families
  • We liaise with other organizations, services and statutory bodies relating to academic achievement, statements, educational welfare, social services and health.

We provide a variety of services that include:

  • Individual work with children and young people - spending time with children who not achieving their full potential or are at risk of being excluded from school.
  • Schools counselling service - offering primary and secondary schools a dedicated Social Worker to provide counselling individual support to pupils.
  • Specialist programmes - addressing bullying, low self-esteem and confidence, sexuality and sexual health.
  • Whole school crisis support - working with other professionals from education, psychological support services and social services to deal with traumatic events impacting on the life of the school.
  • Teacher support services - individual mentor support and training on key legislation and child-centered approaches.
  • Parenting support - we can assist families in their own homes, offer parental support and advocate for them in their dealings with other agencies. We can give guidance to parents to help them meet the needs of their children.
  • Parenting Programmes - we offer a tried and proven parenting programme for parents experiencing difficulties in caring for their children.
  • Bereavement and loss - we can help children come to terms with a family tragedy, separation or loss.
  • Family Support Services - Community based support to help children reach their potential by working with their families who may be experience family break-up, poor parent/child relationship and domestic violence.

Access to the service
Access to the service is via a referral system. All children are worked with in partnership with the school. We do not accept referrals from outside agencies and only refer on to other services following and agreed protocol of consent.

Staff Teams
The Service is managed by a Service Manager and a Deputy Manager supporting a team of Qualified Schools Social Workers.

Finance
The service is financed through the resources of Catholic Care and purchased at a local level by primary and secondary schools within the Diocese of Leeds. Funding packages can be negotiated with individual schools or collectively between schools in localities.

Steps to commissioning the service

  1. Our Schools Social work manager or deputy manager will arrange to visit your school and discuss your needs and the services we offer.
  2. Following this visit a school specific programme that meets the needs of your pupils, school and locality will be designed and presented for approval.
  3. A Service & Partnership Agreement will be drawn up. (The Service Agreement sets out the goals, inputs, outputs and outcomes of the service and also the mechanism for payments, reporting and reviewing the service. The Partnership Agreement sets out the expectations and responsibilities between the partners - the school and Catholic Care).
  4. A timetable will be agreed for the start of the service that includes the recruitment, selection and appointment of a dedicated social worker.
  5. The service will commence on an agreed date for an agreed period.
