Schools' fundraising is extremely valuable to us. We'd be delighted to help you in terms of advice, ideas and resources.
We have an active relationship with many schools. In fact, schools play a crucial part in our fundraising activities such as the "Good Shepherd Appeal".
In return we offer presentations and assemblies, raising awareness of children's and young people's issues, complementing citizenship and PHSE curricula.
We employ nine Social Workers who are linked with schools throughout the Diocese.
Our task is to work with children, their parents and carers and school staff to overcome the many problems that can get in the way of children learning successfully. Common problems include:
Our service provides an opportunity for children to talk to a Social Worker who, while understanding the school system and is not a member of the school staff.
Often difficulties can be resolved at an early stage by encouraging children, parents and school staff to work together to find solutions.
Social Workers are able to tailor make the service, to fit the needs of the school and its community. Increasingly, we are involved in setting up groups on topics such as effective parenting, anger management and raising self-esteem. We work closely with the Rainbows Project, which provides a structured group work experience for children experiencing loss.
