The Schools and Family service provides qualified social workers in Catholic schools throughout the Diocese of Leeds and by special arrangement to non-Catholic schools through service level agreements.
This is a vital service that supports the personal and academic development of children and young people as well as supporting families and school staff. The service is bespoke in that each school can agree the package of social work it needs to meet its circumstances.
A crisis service providing counseling to pupils and staff is also available where there has been a traumatic experience in the life of the school.
The role of Catholic Care's social work services is to help children in school and at home so that they remain focused on their educational needs. We do this by offering additional personal support from our qualified staff. Our solution is to work closely with staff, pupils and their families to ensure effective liaison between schools, and families and local support services.
The service is normally provided in a school setting, but there is also important additional need to work with children in other settings. Children only spend 15% of their school age life in school. The other 85% is spent at home. Many of the problems children are burdened with are connected to home life but these problems emerge at school. Our Schools and Family social work service offers an early intervention approach with families that is non- statutory and usually welcomed by families who need help.
