Who We Are - Mission & Values

Mission Statement

Catholic Care is a charitable organisation working on behalf of the diocese of Leeds. It offers a variety of services and support not only to the Catholic population, but also to the wider community as a whole.

Catholic Care acts to support those in need of its services, especiallly the weak and the vunerable and it acts as an advocate for those unable to represent themselves

The primary purpose of the agency is to foster and influence a vision of how people can live together in Christian charity, love and justice, by taking the "Caring Church into the Community

Statement of Values

Catholic Care's statement of values is rooted in the charitable work of the Catholic Church and informed by the Gospel and the Church's social teaching. While these values and rights are applicable to all people we place particular emphasis upon them in relation to those who are most vulnerable. The values, principles and practice that underpin our work are:

  • Care - expressed in professional commitment for children, families and communities where individuals face disadvantage, experience unhappiness, social isolation, insecurity and a lack of identity or belonging.
  • Community - brought about by valuing the individual and their connectivity with others through relationships that teach individuals to value each other and where necessary take action together for the common good.
  • Compassion - for people who experience poverty and disadvantage. Our mission directs us through caritas - charitable action based on love - to improve the physical, spiritual and emotional wellbeing of people we work with.
  • Dignity - the intrinsic right of every person to enjoy freedoms, choices and respect. We will offer support to fulfil each persons potential through positive change.
  • Equity - opportunity for all people to be part of an inclusive and diverse organisation that celebrates difference and creates relationships of mutual respect. Our services are delivered without favour or discrimination. Access to services is determined by need.
  • Family - we believe that it is within the family that a child can enjoy the fullness of childhood and be nurtured to full appreciation of human life. We strive to create an environment of constant warmth, predictability and responsiveness to need, from where young people can be prepared and supported for independent living.
  • Justice - we aim to be fair and just in all our dealings with people; those using services and those in our employ or who work as volunteers.
  • Solidarity - we will work alongside beneficiaries and other partners and service providers to improve services to best meet the needs of the people we work with.
  • Stewardship - through responsible, open and accountable working practices, as well as systematic monitoring and evaluation of the positive difference our work makes to the lives of others.
  • Subsidiarity - our actions acknowledge that the interests of those we serve are paramount. Individual people, particularly those with no voice, are at the centre of our service delivery. We will work with individuals, listen and understand their needs and respect their right to self determination.
  • Welcome - we offer hospitality and a warm environment for all those who use our services and those who we work with towards common goals.
