Stuart Hanlon, former Director of Catholic Care, writes:
“ Readers, particularly in the Dewsbury and Huddersfield Deaneries, will have been saddened by the death of Mrs Pat Bastian / Whitford in February this year. During the 1970s and 90s, Pat was a most valued member of the Westhaven Committee – a residential home for girls staffed by the Sisters of the Cross and Passion.
Her knowledge and good advice led me to ask her to become a Trustee of Catholic Care and she faithfully served on the Board from 1990 to 2008. Pat’s background as a Children’s Officer and a Senior Lecturer in Social Work put her in the unique position to understand and have insight in to our work at Catholic Care. Her contributions were thoughtful, based on experience and knowledge, and delivered in an unassuming, modest and influential manner. She was highly respected by all.
Pat always reminded Trustees and Staff to maintain the “heart of Catholic Care and mindful of its proud tradition in whatever new endeavours they envisaged”.
May she rest in peace.
